Eagles of Death Metal Are Taking Death by Sexy on a Full North American Run

Eagles of Death Metal just locked in 23 dates across North America this summer, and they're doing it for one reason: Death by Sexy turns 20. The band's sophomore album, originally released on April 11, 2006, is getting the full album play treatment across a stacked run of venues from coast to coast. Expect the record front to back, fan favorites from the rest of the catalog, and what the band is calling "a few surprises."

If you know, you know. Jesse Hughes and Joshua Homme started this band back in 1998 in Palm Desert, California, and despite the name, this has never been a death metal band. The story goes that Homme was being introduced to death metal by a friend and wondered what a cross between the Eagles and a death metal band would sound like. That question turned into one of the most fun, reckless rock and roll projects of the last two decades.

The Album That Changed Everything

Death by Sexy came two years after their debut Peace Love Death Metal and cemented EODM as a legitimate force in the garage rock and desert rock world. It's the kind of album that sounds like a party you're already late to. Twenty years later, those songs still hit. Hearing them performed live, in full, in rooms like the 9:30 Club and First Avenue? That's going to be something else.

The live lineup these days features Jennie Vee on bass, Jorma Vik on drums, and Joshua Jove on guitar alongside Hughes, so this isn't some stripped down nostalgia run. This is a full band bringing the heat.

Tickets and How to Get Them

A special fan presale started March 25, with general public on-sale happening this Friday, March 27 at 10 a.m. local time. Tickets start around $30 depending on the venue, which is honestly a steal for a full album anniversary show in rooms this good. You can grab tickets through Ticketmaster or check the band's official site for links to all dates.

Why This Tour Matters

I'll be real, EODM is one of those bands that's always better live than you expect. They bring an energy that's borderline unhinged in the best possible way. The fact that they're doing this in mid-size venues instead of sheds or arenas makes it even better. These are rooms where you can feel the bass in your chest and see the sweat. That's where this band thrives.

Their catalog runs five albums deep, from Peace Love Death Metal in 2004 through Zipper Down in 2015, but Death by Sexy is the one that really locked it in. Hearing it performed in full, 20 years on, with the promise of surprises mixed in? Don't sleep on this.

These rooms are going to sell out. Get your tickets Friday before they're gone.
