The Plot In You Continue the Volumes Series with New Single ‘You Get One’

The Volumes Series is concluding soon and The Plot In You are going to close it out with a banger. The Plot In You have released their brand new single “You Get One” and announced their self-titled album set to release July 10th via Fearless Records.

For the past two years, The Plot In You have been releasing a series of EPs consisting of three songs each. So far we’ve gotten three volumes with hit songs “Forgotten”, “Spare Me”, “Divide”, “Been Here Before” and their most recent release “Silence”. Throughout the course of those two years, The Plot In You has reached new heights by rewriting the playbook on how to release new music. By releasing this series, they were able to experiment with a new sound with each song but still make them tell a continuous story.

“You Get One” definitely continues that thread. This song has more of a groovy and electronic feel with steady and consistent drums and guitar riffs that are hard but yet controlled with multiple vocal layering that adds a depth and uniqueness to make it stand out from the others. Landon Tewers is a wizard when it comes to creating the songs for The Plot In You. He’s able to create unique sounds that make each song different from the other and this one is no exception. Instead of going full chaotic heavy, the band opts for a controlled explosion making it powerful, but polished. The melody carries the weight more than breakdown-style aggression. It’s less about the riffs and breakdowns and more about creating dynamic contrast, emotional pacing and texture layering.

Lyrically, Tewers is using religious imagery to create almost a sense of existential dread and being stuck in a mental loop or being able to handle all that comes with living this one life, this one soul “//You get one, one soul then you go away//This ones it// Take your time 'cause you know you get// One, one soul then you’re in the grave//This ones it// One soul, can you handle it?//”. You get a better idea of what the song is telling in the music video. Creating a story with different scenes of multiple people with different sins and what they do with their one soul.

Overall this song is a great continuation of the music The Plot In You has been releasing. Their self-titled album will be out July 10th which will include all the songs they’ve released in the Volumes series and one other song that is yet to be released.
