Motionless in White Join Forces with Corey Taylor for New Song & Announced Their New Album

If there is one thing I was not expecting on my bingo card this year was for Corey Taylor to be featured on a Motionless in White song. And that’s exactly what we got this morning. Motionless in White not only released their brand new track ‘Playing God’ which features heavy metal legend Corey Taylor of Slipknot, they also announced their brand new album Decades out July 17th via Roadrunner Records.
Motionless in White have already blessed our ears with their recent release ‘Afraid of the Dark’, but clearly us as fans wanted more. Fans have been begging the band to release more updates on new music for weeks when it finally happened this past week. Frontman Chris Cerulli began teasing fans on socials by posting cryptic images about something big coming and that they weren’t archiving their posts on Instagram but a fake photo of something happening soon. A few days ago they officially announced the name of the new song, ‘Playing God’ with it being released on Wednesday, but crossed out who was featured on it having fans guess who they think would be featured on the song. The following day Cerulli posted a message on X explaining the meaning behind the song saying that there is not one theme behind this song, but multiple social themes about the toxic and embarrassing behavior by internet rats. The moment has finally arrived and not only did we get this banger of a new song, but we got the album announcement as well. 20 years of Motionless in White all has accumulated into this one album.
The blending of each era of the band was clear when they released ‘Afraid of the Dark’, having little easter eggs of key parts of each Motionless in White era and we definitely get some of those easter eggs in ‘Playing God’. This song is more of a collaboration than a feature. Both parties were able to blend not only a little bit of old school Slipknot sound, but still make this a Motionless in White song. At the very beginning of the song, we are given an ode to the early Slipknot days with the fast paced drums and distorted guitar riffs but much grungier and darker. If you take parts ‘Eyeless’ from Slipknot and parts of ‘Thoughts & Prayers’ from Motionless in White, you will get ‘Playing God’ in all its glory. The vocals on this song are probably some of my favorite vocals I’ve heard from both Cerulli and Taylor. They both play off each other’s strengths and are able to create such depth with their vocals it just makes this one of the best collaborations to date.
Lyrically, this song has a clear message that screams Motionless in White. Being able to tackle topics that not a lot of bands tend to talk about is such a strength for Motionless in White. They are able to take those hard topics and use great metaphors to describe those themes that just make this song such a banger. This album is going to be the biggest release for the band. There are so many features on the album that include Skylar Grey, Dark Divine and Outlier. The album artwork itself is amazing featuring Cerulli in full on special effects makeup that was beautifully created by SFX makeup artist Lisette Santana.
You can catch Motionless in White on tour supporting Bring Me The Horizon with The Plot in You and Amira Elfeky and on their summer headliner tour with support from Lorna Shore, Fit For A King and Static Dress. Let us know what song you are most excited to hear of their new album Decades out July 17th.
