Song of the Week: “In Your Name” by VANA

Sometimes you want to start off your week with a heavy dose of metal or let your pop girly out for the day. Or if you are like me you blend all the genres together. Today is one of those days where I want both the heavy and the clean dark pop vocals. My new obsession artist has been New Zealand native VANA and their new song “In Your Name”.

VANA is a rising star in the metalcore industry by blending dark pop/trap vocals with heavy metalcore/industrial riffs. Embracing dark feminine energy that gives all the baddie core vibes. I am one of those people that did discover them on TikTok with their song “Beg!” that is still to this day engraved in my head. Since then, VANA has signed to Sumerian Records and has released numerous singles including songs like “Pray”, “BITE BACK” and is featured on the Magnolia Park song “Worship”. Each of the songs embraces that dark femininity energy that is not only beautifully written but is heavy to the core.

VANA recently released their brand new song “In Your Name” and it’s been on repeat for the past few days. This song carries the same vibe like their other songs but much softer and darker. The song has a cinematic feel to it with layered vocals and subtle organ/piano synth like tracks. The verses in the song are eerie and whisper like that gives you the sense of a prayer that pulls you in. Slowly pulling you in with that pre-chorus that builds that tension and explodes into powerful guitar riffs and equally powerful vocals in the chorus. Lyrically this keeps you on your toes. Creating a story of obsession and devotion that makes you feel like you're in a toxic relationship but no one wants to be the first one to let go. Overall the song is haunting yet controlled and much more of a heavy emotional tie compared to VANA’s previous work.

VANA is an artist that is on the rise and you can catch them on The Lady in Red Tour with support from Deadlands, Chandler Leighton, Eyes Set to Kill and Redhook. Tour kicks off this Friday in Atlanta, GA so definitely get your tickets to a show near you!
