Obituary aren't the type of band to sit around on off days. The veteran Florida death metal crew just announced a batch of U.S. headlining shows that fill out their schedule around a pair of summer dates opening for Megadeth on the farewell tour. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Thursday, July 2 at 10 AM local time.

The headlining run kicks off July 24 in Pensacola and winds through Atlanta, Memphis, Bloomington, and Chicago before Obituary link up with Megadeth for support dates on July 31 in La Crosse, WI and August 1 in Green Bay, WI. From there, they pick back up with headlining stops in Louisville and Asheville, a two-day appearance at Sound and Fury in Los Angeles on August 15-16, and close things out supporting Acid Bath at The Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York City on August 21.

Why This Matters

I'll be real, this is a smart routing move. Obituary are one of the most important death metal bands to ever come out of Florida. John Tardy, Donald Tardy, Trevor Peres, Terry Butler, and Ken Andrews have been at this for over four decades, and they're still crushing it. Their most recent album Dying of Everything dropped in January 2023 and reminded everyone they haven't lost a step. Word is they're working on a new album that could surface in the next year or so.

Getting two dates on Megadeth's farewell tour is a solid look. Dave Mustaine and crew kicked off their goodbye run earlier this year, and the summer leg stretches across the country with a mix of headlining dates, festival stops, and co-headlining shows with Iron Maiden later in the fall. Having Obituary on the bill in La Crosse and Green Bay is a strong pairing for anyone who grew up on thrash and death metal.

The Acid Bath support date at Pier 17 is worth noting too. The reunited Louisiana sludge legends have been making live appearances this year, and Obituary already shared a bill with them back in March in Houston. That New York date is going to be a special one.

If you haven't seen Obituary in a club setting, honestly, don't sleep on these. That's where this band hits the hardest.
