Silent Planet dropped their new single, “under your skin,” just a couple of days ago, and some of us have been completely lost in it ever since. Listen closely and you can feel the evolution of the band’s sound while also absorbing the full intensity of this track.

Dystopian atmospheres, quiet reflective waves, and explosive, star-colliding moments, all laced with soul-touching lyrics, are hallmarks of Silent Planet’s style, a realm where their music truly shines. This track provides everything both new and longtime fans are looking for and more, so we can break down what makes it resonate.

Before we dive into the track, here is what you should know about the band and why I consider them a top player in this genre. Silent Planet hail from the metalcore scene, and for over a decade, they have built a sound that is highly identifiable and respected. The band consists of Garrett Russell on vocals, Mitchell Stark on guitar, Alex Camarena on drums, and Nick Pocock on bass, and their tracks are deep in both production and emotion, digging into themes that connect on both personal and societal levels. They are a band that lives in those in-between spaces, where intensity and reflection coexist, and I strongly believe that is exactly why people stay locked in.

Back to it, they are at it again with their newest single, “under your skin,” which some Patreon fans got early before it officially dropped. This is a really heart-forward song, and if you have ever felt that twisty, hollow ache of watching someone drift away, this one is for you. The band said it themselves:

“This song is for anyone who knows what it’s like to watch someone cross over, and what it feels like to be caught between worlds.”

The song itself feels so raw emotionally. The caption of the music video on YouTube states:

“Dedicated to those who we have loved and lost to the scourge of cancer.”

This is a get-personal moment. This song hits so many of us on a vulnerable level. As someone whose zodiac is all about expressing emotions through tears, I could not help but cry listening. And maybe that is not how everyone experiences it, but this track is a healer, a relief, a quiet form of comfort, no matter what pain you carry.

It made me even more proud of the song to see how quickly listeners have connected with it, just days after it was presented to the world. Fans have been sharing their thoughts, feelings, and personal stories in the comments, and it’s really incredible to witness such a strong, and super immediate response. The balance in this track is phenomenal: the lyrics, the devastatingly beautiful melody, and that intense rush of release toward the end all come together perfectly. The music video, which premiered during the Nocturnal Awards, only amplifies this emotional impact. Honestly, I might just say this is my new favorite Silent Planet song. How cool is it that they’ve created a track that makes people say, “This is such a banger,” but also, “I really needed this because of a personal tragedy”?

This newer direction in their music feels like the next layer of depth that will carry Silent Planet into their next chapter. Fan reception is definitely welcoming this update with open arms. Overall, amazing job from Silent Planet. Production-wise, they worked with Daniel Braunstein (Spiritbox, Dayseeker), and you can feel the moody tension all over this. This track totally touches something raw and very real, offering a way to process and release sadness through art while also showcasing their enhanced sound.

If you are the live-music type, which most (if not all of us) on Evvntly are, Silent Planet is hosting their first-ever Lovers Fest on December 21st at The Basement East in Nashville, with The Callous Daoboys, fromjoy, and more. Make sure to give “under your skin” a listen. It will give you absolute chills, as will Silent Planet as a whole.
