Belle and Chain Drop Debut Single While Opening for Barns Courtney Across North America

Belle and Chain just put out their debut single, and they're doing it the right way. The LA-based duo dropped "Don't You Worry Babe" on April 9 via Notes From The Underground/Not Dead Yet Media, and instead of sitting around waiting for playlists to pick it up, they're currently out on the road opening for Barns Courtney on a 24-date North American tour. That's how you introduce yourself.

If you're not familiar yet, Belle and Chain is an alt-country gothic rock project fronted by Spencer Grammer. Yeah, the Spencer Grammer. You probably know her as Casey Cartwright from Greek or as the voice of Summer Smith in Rick and Morty. But music has become a central part of her life, and this project feels like more than a side venture. It feels like the real thing.

The Story Behind Belle and Chain

Grammer grew up between New York City and Los Angeles in a family deeply rooted in the performing arts. Her father is celebrated TV actor Kelsey Grammer, and her mother was a Broadway dancer. So the creative gene was always there. But it was music that found her during one of the hardest periods of her life. In 2020, Grammer was the victim of a violent attack that left her with a severed median nerve and two tendons in her right forearm. As part of her rehabilitation, she picked up the guitar, and by 2024 she was writing songs.

What started as a solo project evolved into a full duo when multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Davis IL came into the picture. The band's sound sits in this space between haunting and melodic, shaped by the dust and darkness of the American West. Think breathy vocals, shimmering textures, and restrained lyricism that says a lot without saying too much. Some comparisons to Lana Del Rey have already been floating around, which honestly tracks.

About the Single

"Don't You Worry Babe" is a clear introduction to what Belle and Chain is all about. At its core, it's a song about letting go of a relationship that was never built to last. But it's not bitter. It's tender. Grammer describes it as "similar to a breakup song, but it takes a more gentle approach to letting someone go and letting them know that they'll be alright on their own." That restraint is what makes the track work. It doesn't try too hard. It just breathes.

On the Road with Barns Courtney

The timing of this release is perfect because Belle and Chain is already out on tour right now supporting Barns Courtney across North America. The run kicked off April 1 in Dallas and stretches through 24 cities before wrapping up at the Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles on May 3. For a debut act, this is a massive opportunity. Barns Courtney has been building a loyal fanbase since his debut album The Attractions of Youth in 2017, and his most recent record Supernatural dropped in 2024. The crowds showing up for him are exactly the kind of audience that's going to connect with what Belle and Chain is doing.

Don't Sleep on This

I'll be real, this is one of those early-stage projects where you can feel something building. The backstory alone is compelling, but the music actually backs it up. Belle and Chain has that weathered, wide-open sound that rewards repeated listens. And getting to see them in intimate rooms on this tour, before things inevitably scale up, is the kind of opportunity you don't want to miss.

Tickets for the remaining Barns Courtney dates with Belle and Chain opening are available now through Ticketmaster. Go hear this band while the rooms are still small.
