A$AP Rocky. A$AP NastThundercat… wait, Winona Ryder? And DANNY ELFMAN!? Some of these names together feel almost expected, while others feel like a fever dream I didn’t know I needed. Yet here they all are, colliding in the same orbit for "Punk Rocky", and I am still not 100% convinced this is real life. A$AP Rocky, one of my all time favorite artists outside of my usual music genre, just released a piece of art that feels like every version of my personality decided to show up at the same party.

I genuinely had to pause, blink twice, and shake my head before the disbelief settled in. Once it did, I knew instantly that this was going to be something really special. Experiencing the track alongside the visual had me bouncing around my room one moment, then stopping in complete awe the next as I caught new details sprinkled throughout the video. With the view count already climbing past 1.6 million, let us unpack everything that was delivered here!

We say hello 2026, and good day to A$AP Rocky, who wasted absolutely no time stepping into the new year with intention. AT LAST, we are getting our first real glimpse of his long teased album Don’t Be Dumb, finally visible just beyond the lovely horizon. Now, if you are familiar with my writing, you might be wondering when A$AP Rocky ever made his way into my regular rotation. Truthfully, I am an old fan. I lived in his early catalog, looping tracks until they felt stitched into my memory and a part of my coming-of-age years. Yes, I was absolutely that girl blasting “Peso” while celebrating her high school graduation. But with me aging myself aside, can we please talk about this track, because “Punk Rocky” deserves the spotlight right now.

On Monday, January 5, just the beautiful day of yesterday, Rocky released the official video for his new single Punk Rocky, a track that hits with visual unruliness fueled by total creative intention. To lead the cast, they recruited longtime Tim Burton collaborator Winona Ryder, which instantly gave the video an offbeat cinematic edge. Some of you younger ones might recognize her from Stranger Things, but let us be very clear here. We are talking about THE Lydia Deetz of Beetlejuice. THE Veronica Sawyer of Heathers. THE Kim Boggs of Edward Scissorhands. The second she appeared on screen, I nearly fell out of my seat. Seeing the queen herself step into this music video already felt like a cultural moment.

The "Punk Rocky" visual is co-directed by A$AP Rocky alongside Folkert Verdoorn and Simon Becks, and it’s here that Rocky’s alter egos really steal the show. Each persona brings its own flavor, turning the video into a living, chaotic art piece. Rocky himself appears as Gr1m, the dark, edgy core of the video, the anchor that holds all the madness together. Rugahand, played by Tommy Revenge, is the splash of punk energy, being rowdy, wild, and ready to throw the party into overdrive. Babushka Boi, portrayed by Thoto, brings a whimsical, surreal humor, adding a quirky layer to the visual spectacle. And the Williams twins appear as Shirthead and Dummy, twin embodiments of equal parts in chaos, their exaggerated movements and styling adding comic relief while intensifying the video’s surreal punk-carnival vibe.

Together, these characters interact, collide, and transform the music video into something that feels more like stepping into a living art piece rather than just watching a song. Each one represents a different side of Rocky’s creativity, pushing boundaries, twisting genres, and reminding us why he’s still one of the most inventive artists in music today.

Now Winona Ryder plays the “girl next door” who becomes an unexpected witness to the madness as Rocky throws a rager in his garage. While the song itself leans more towards a breezy and indie rock inspired one, a sibling to the laid back charm hit "Sundress", the visual fully embraces wild energy. It's messy, unpolished, and intentionally madcap, settling for rebellion over restraint on each turn. This had to have been such a fun creative project. The use of special effects, stop motion, color grading, and total synchronization with the song is seriously phenoms. You can feel the care and thought poured into every single frame. I am obsessed. Both the video and the song are incredible. Watching something like this feels like stepping into a new world, into a living art space. Please do yourself a favor and experience it firsthand.

The cast list only adds to the spectacle. Alongside Ryder, the video features appearances from THE Danny Elfman, Thundercat, and A$AP Nast, keeping the train going on blurring the line between music, film, and performance art. These kinds of crossovers are EXACTLY what 2026 needs. Mix it up across all industries. Cross boundaries. Blur the oils of music with the acrylics of film and create something unforgettable. Seeing Danny Elfman get more recognition ina different fanbase has me genuinely stoked, especially watching people actively talk about it. Projects like this light up conversation and push art forward in real time.

Fans are RAVING about this drop, saying things like:

“Shout out to artists that are truly trying to be artists and not stay restricted and limited, but actually are experimenting”

“ ‘Yo, he got Winona Ryder in his video’. My dudes, he also got Danny f'n Elfman playing drums in the video. For those not in the know, Danny is a music legend. Most of you would know his work from Nightmare Before Christmas. And yes, he also scored Edward Scissorhands which also features Wynona Ryder.”

“There is no other rapper with better visuals in music videos than A$AP Rocky. This video is dope af. So is the song.”

With "Punk Rocky", A$AP Rocky continues to prove that his creative vision goes way far beyond the music itself. As Don't Be Dumb approaches its January 16 release, this visual stands as both a true statement piece and a reminder that Rocky is still pushing boundaries, still shapeshifting, and STILL completely uninterested in playing it safe (now THAT’S punk). I am beyond stoked for this drop. It almost makes me less mad that Sundress came out eight years ago… almost. So thank you A$AP Rocky for opening the door, and for 2026, let us keep this momentum rolling!
