It's been over two decades since Unwritten Law put out a live album. That changes now. The SoCal punk veterans just announced An Evening with Unwritten Law, a brand new live record that's available on clear vinyl LP through Cleo Recs.

Their last live release was 2003's Music in High Places, which was recorded for the VH1 program of the same name. That album captured the band doing acoustic renditions in Yellowstone National Park, which was cool but a very different vibe from what this band actually sounds like in a packed room. A proper live album from Unwritten Law has been a long time coming.

A Band That Never Stopped Moving

If you've been following Unwritten Law at all over the past few years, you know these guys haven't slowed down. They came back with The Hum in 2022, their first studio album of original material in over a decade. That record brought founding drummer Wade Youman back into the fold alongside vocalist Scott Russo and guitarist Chris Lewis, and it hit different. It's a concept album split into phases of the moon, with singles like "Magnetic" and the title track. If you missed it, go fix that.

The band has also been touring consistently. Earlier this year they ran a solid string of dates across the U.S., hitting cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Nashville, St. Louis, Dallas, Houston, and multiple Florida stops. They shared bills with Goldfinger, Pulley, Zebrahead, and Eternal Boy along the way. They even announced special San Diego shows where they'd play their self-titled album and Elva in full. That's the kind of energy that makes a live album feel necessary.

Why This Matters

I'll be real, Unwritten Law is one of those bands where the live show is the whole point. "Seein' Red" hit No. 1 on the Modern Rock chart back in the day, and that song still rips in a room full of people who know every word. A recorded version of that energy is something fans have wanted for years.

These guys have been grinding since 1990. Seven studio albums, Warped Tour runs, and a catalog that holds up. The fact that they're still out there packing rooms and now documenting it properly on a live record says a lot about where they're at as a band right now.

Grab the Vinyl

An Evening with Unwritten Law is available now on clear vinyl LP. You can pick it up through Cleo Recs. If you're a fan of SoCal punk and you've been following this band for any amount of time, this one belongs in your collection.

For upcoming tour dates and tickets, check out Unwritten Law on Bandsintown or Live Nation. Don't sleep on catching them live. That's kind of the whole point.
