Tigers Jaw rolled into The Observatory in Santa Ana on June 8 and reminded a packed room exactly why they have spent the better part of two decades as one of emo's most quietly essential bands. The Scranton band is out on the road behind Lost on You, their seventh album and first for Hopeless Records, and the new songs slotted in next to the old favorites like they had always belonged there.

Ben Walsh and Brianna Collins traded vocals all night, leaning into the big melodic choruses and the quiet, aching turns that have always been the band's signature. By the time they hit the singles, the floor was a sea of voices singing every word right back at the stage.

Direct support came from Pool Kids, the Florida-bred crew whose technical, hook-heavy spin on emo has quietly made them one of the most exciting live bands going. They played tight and loud and won over anyone who showed up early.

Opening the night was Bleary Eyed, whose hazy, shoegaze-tinted songs set the perfect mood for everything that followed.
