The Academy Is… closed out 2025 with a bang, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their emo-pop staple Almost Here with a Los Angeles stop on December 18 at The Belasco.

Joining them was Slow Joy (gallery), who set the tone early—bathing the room in dreamy, twilight hues and shoegaze textures.

The night peaked with an electric set from The Academy Is…, ripping through fan favorites like “Slow Down,” “Black Mamba,” and “Checkmarks”—a track that remains in heavy rotation on my playlist. The venue was packed wall to wall, with fans spilling beyond the main room, singing every song from start to finish.
