Gerard Way Crashed a Frozen Soul Show and the Crowd Lost It

If you were at The Novo in Los Angeles on April 17, you witnessed something special. Frozen Soul were only on their second date of the US tour, and they already pulled out a moment that's going to be talked about for a long time. Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance walked out on stage, completely unannounced, and joined the band for a live performance of their collaboration "No Place of Warmth."

Nobody saw it coming. The crowd erupted. The stage lights were flashing, the guitars were raging, and Way and vocalist Chad Green traded off vicious metal vocals back and forth like they'd been doing it together for years. When the song wrapped, Green pointed to Way and simply said, "Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, everybody." That's all that needed to be said.

The Collaboration Has Been Brewing

If you've been following Frozen Soul closely, you already knew Way was featured on the studio version of "No Place of Warmth," which dropped back on February 27. The track is the title cut off the band's upcoming third album, and honestly, Way's vocal performance on it is unlike anything you've heard from him in MCR. We're talking a genuinely vicious scream. The guy clearly has a deep love for metal, and it shows.

Chad Green has talked about how the collaboration came together. He and Way became friends a couple of years ago, and Green knew Way had a genuine love for the genre. So he pitched the idea of Way singing on a Frozen Soul track, and Way was all in. That kind of organic connection is what makes a guest feature actually work instead of feeling forced.

No Place of Warmth Is Stacked

The album No Place of Warmth drops May 8, 2026 via Century Media Records, and Way's feature is just the beginning. The record also has guest spots from Robb Flynn of Machine Head on "Invoke War" and Devin Swank of Sanguisugabogg on "Dreadnought." Eleven tracks total, produced by Josh Schroeder, who's worked with Lorna Shore and King 810. This is going to hit hard.

The band has already dropped four singles leading up to the release. "Absolute Zero" came first in early February, a 53-second blast of anti-authoritarianism. Then "No Place of Warmth" with Way on February 27. "Invoke War" with Flynn landed on March 26. And most recently, "DEATHWEAVER" dropped on April 16, the same day the US tour kicked off in Sacramento. Four singles deep and every one of them has delivered.

Frozen Soul Keep Building

I'll be real, the trajectory this Dallas death metal band is on is impressive. From their Encased in Ice EP in 2019 to Crypt of Ice in 2021 to Glacial Domination in 2023, every release has been a step up. They've shared stages with Dying Fetus, Obituary, Amon Amarth, Killswitch Engage, and more. They even launched their own festival, Wrecking Ball Metal Madness. Now they've got Gerard Way screaming on their record. That's not a band coasting. That's a band on the rise.

Before the US run, they were overseas supporting Heaven Shall Burn on the Home Over Europe Tour alongside The Halo Effect and The Black Dahlia Murder. They came straight home and jumped on Avatar's Don't Go In The Forest 2026 tour with Fleshgod Apocalypse. These guys do not slow down.

Don't Sleep on This Album

No Place of Warmth is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated death metal releases of the year. Eleven tracks. Guest features from Gerard Way, Robb Flynn, and Devin Swank. Production from Josh Schroeder. If any of the remaining tracks hit as hard as the four singles we've already heard, this record is going to be a problem in the best way possible.

The album is out May 8 via Century Media Records. Pre-orders are up now, including a limited Sparkle Starlight vinyl pressing capped at 300 copies worldwide through Bandcamp. If you want that one, move fast.
